Puffer has hunting problems!?

Also what kind of cover do you have in the tank? Fahaka's are more of an ambush predator rather than a chase the hell out of something pred. Catching a crayfish isnt an easy thing to do so help the little guy out a little and provide some plants, wood, or rocks if there isnt anything in there already. He will learn how to ambush in no time.

my advice: take the crayfish out, starve him (of course the fahaka :P) for 2-3 days and let him beg. and the first thing he gets is a nice tasty crayfish ;) another thing is the size as already mentioned before, maybe the crayfish is really too big, we need information on that as well.

cheers

My puffer is about 3 in. long. The crayfish is at least as big as he is. It was the smallest in the store. I keep ghost shrimp (who feed on the bloodworms) in the tank. I was feeding him a few bloodworms each night. I didn't feed him for a couple of days thinking that might encourage him to be more aggressive with the cray. It didn't do much good. I think that some of the ghost shrimp are gone, but I haven't ever seen him catch one of those either. I think that the cray may have pinched him because he seems scared of him.

He has plants, a bridge, and a rock formation in the tank. He has a favorite plant on the one side of the aquarium. Its funny because he seems to have a bedtime:). Each night around 9pm he starts hanging under the plant kind of laying on the bottom.

How often are you feeding him? He may not feel like tackling something the same size as him & he could well have been pinched by it. Probably not what he is used to picking out in the wild.

I was feeding him bloodworms daily. I also had some snails in there for him. I think he may have eaten some of the ghost shrimp too. I may try to clip the cray's pinchers. i may also check into some smaller prey for him. Any suggestions for his size?
