sorry for the crappy phone pics. we got this guy in at work under the name of porcupine puffer. generally when we order under that name a different species comes in, but lately ive been seeing these more and more.
i.d. please? all replies appreciated. :)

not at all, the spines point outward when not puffed, it looks like a regular spiny box mixed with a regular porcupine. also, focus on the patterns in finnage. there's no doubt this is a burrfish, but what species?

it is neither Diodon Holocanthus, or Chilomycterus schoepfi.

that is the closest ive found, thank you so much. i appreciate that you believe what i am saying about the species. the only difference in the species you named is the small spots covering the body, mine does not have those. but it is quite similar. is it possible that mine is a morph of diodon holocanthus from a different area, or maybe even a hybrid?
