Puffer novice looking to get DPs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think all females are good, if they are large enough to sex. The rule of thumb is 5g for the 1st DP & then 3g for every one after. That's if all you keep are DPs. You could go with 2 males & 4 females. I think it would make for a more interesting tank to have both sexes. All males will fight to the death, possibly resulting in no puffers left. A group of ottos & also, cherry shrimp will do well in there.

I think as much as possible you want to try avoiding getting all of the same sex puffers to help ease aggravation between them... since if i remember correctly, the males will literally fight to the death..

Sounds good, now I just need to set the tank up an find someone who has them... I asked one shop if they could get them when I was ready an they didnt really seem intersted :(

^ I wanted to say the same thing, since in my personal experience my old DP's used to tear apart any cherries / small shrimps that hit the tank, but at the same time i've heard a lot of people say they've managed to pull it off with no problems...

So i guess it really depends on the temperament of the puff, as well as whether or not they realize shrimps = food...

You would think so but I've seen it done, over & over.

Dont cherry shrimp breed like crazy? Might just be new shrimp people are seeing, hehe

An on a side note im going puffer equipment shopping today! Think my convicts eggs are hatching too.
