I have my figure 8 in a 130 community tank. They have a ton of personality and gets along fine with everyone in there -from goby to archer. From what I have read they will be more aggressive to other puffers. So as long as you just want one you might be alright.
One of the few "community" puffers I think, is the F8. They are puffers though & at any time can change to a monster nipper. Since there are so many smaller BW species, you could make a lovely community of fish in a tank that size.
Pairs of knight gobies, pairs of red/yellow chromides, dragon gobies, mollies (sailfins are a bit too aggressive though), halfbeaks, kribensis, Glassfish (NOT PAINTED!), Celebes rainbows, to name a few.
As far as I know, there really isn't any/much intra-specific aggression between F8s. I'd go with 3, so there won't be a larger one picking on the smaller one. I have 2 & one is always fatter & gets all the food.
I was hoping you would say a group of three or four, so that is perfect. As our resident puffer expert, I respect your advise greatly.
Do you think they would also do okay with guppies? I have a tank now of guppies that I would love to bring to brackish levels (slowly, of course), then transfer to the 150g if they would be okay. Theyre all adults and Im honestly not too worried about them eating the babies if they come around. They are fancy tail, so that means flowing back fins, and I know this is generally risky with puffers, but I wasnt sure about the F8.
P.S. I used to have a F8 puffer for a few months or so holding it for a friend until their tank was up. I absolutely loved the little one. He had such a character. That's what brings me here.
