As others have said 125g is the recommended minimum, preferably with a tank depth of 2ft. I have seen specimens in the 16-18" region and a picture of one nearly 20". Whatever size he gets he will still appreciate the space of a 125g.

If you get a juvenile, in the first year you should see a growth rate of an inch a month, after that it slows down.

cuz i was thinkin bout usin a 20h as a grow out tank

I wouldnt keep a Fahaka in a 20g at any size, i've seen stunted ones and they aint pretty and they stunt very easily. Even for a small juvenile I would want a 55g as a grow out and as soon as he hit 6" i'd move him up to a bigger tank. At most at that size a 20g would only last a month or 2 at the most before he would need more space.

GSP are gnarly little guys. I had a pair and as soon as they tasted one of their tank mates that they lived with for a year and a half. All the other fish became game too. Damn things were like the fat chubby kids in a pahrana family! Anyhow, they learned how to hunt and started eating everything it could catch. Dont get it wrong, I loved those guys. Sad story, kinda like romeo and juliet. One died and then the other one got sad....the white belly turned dark almost black....not a happy fish. The once shimp eating machine just looked at the food and stayed in the corner till it died.

Yes they are freshwater fish, but they grow very large
and do not get along with any other fish.

If you want a freshwater puffer for a 20g tank look into congo and arrowhead puffers. They are great little guys, very aggressive, and grow to about 6"
