Pump elevating tank temp

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I also have checked them with my temperature gun I use for water changes.
hello; with such a gun my I assume you can check the temp directly of the pump motors, impeller assemblies and other parts.
You have other tanks which I again assume have power filtration. If the pumps are the same as the one in question then you can do a direct comparison. At any rate you can get some level of comparison as to the running temps. You might also check the temps of water coming into and then out of a questioned pump.

Good idea for temperature gun check - the only issue will be that the pump itself is submersible and heat may be dissipated by the water but will give it a try.

The increased temp is definitely coming from the pump. The quest is really what to do about it. Do I take apart from the pump or get a new one?

separately, this tank has a unique filtration system when compared to the others.

hello; I may be assuming somethings that are not correct. I do not have a setup similar to yours so was thinking the motor it self is out in the air and connected by some sort of shaft.
I was just considering that the motor and pump assemblies are all submerged. It such a case then age and/or strain can cause the motor to work harder and become hotter.
Strain might be blocked or restricted plumbing. I have broken down filter tubing and found thick layers of stick goop inside the tubing. After a cleaning my power filter would be back up to decent flow.

Were it mine I would make some attempts to fix any possible issues.
