I was wondering what type of pump i should buy for my sump. The tank is 518 gallons there is a 2 inch pvc overflow drilled into the bottom of the tank with an overflow box built into the tank. I might build a second overflow box in the front where the other overflow is drilled but for now it is just capped.
the tank is 3 feet deep, the overflow box is 4 inch abs, and the hole in the bottom is 2 inches, how much water will flow thru that??? and what size pump should i get??? anyone have any ideas??
It should do 1500gph+. When I only had the 2 2" drains, they kept up with the pump, but just barely. I added the third for safety. If I were you, I'd add another overflow. If you don't want to do that, I would look for a pump in the 1000 gph range. Your overflow should move more water than mine per inch because it's at the bottom and you'll get more pressure.

i have read most of them but it doesn't tell me what type of pump i need for my tank, theirs aren't for 500 gallon tanks that are 3 feet tal with a 2 inch hole drilled in the bottom for the overflow so i was looking for what i would need for my application
What other holes do you have? In the tank, I mean. My 250g came with two inch holes and I had to enlarge them. Acrylic is easier to work with, so it shouldn't be a problem (just a little time and lots of care). I had to drill my tank to 2 5/8" (or 2 7/8?) just to fit 1 1/4" bulkheads in it. I also had to limit my turnovers to 3 per hour.
If the plumbing is undersized, it is going to cause problems and headaches if you oversize the pump.
I am trying to make heads and tails from your pictures but I am not sure what I am looking at. Ususlly you can prevent glare from the tank by not being 90 degrees from the tank. I usually play with different angles to reduce the glare and then pick the best picture. This is especially true when using a flash. (Hope this helps with future pictures.)
If you could post more pictures, it would help greatly. Plus a lot of us love pictures.
On the left side of the tank, is the pipe only going half way up the distance of the tank? Or is there something else that isn't showing up?
On the right side of the tank, there is some plumbing missing. Did you get to see how it was plumbed before?
