Seems like it would also depend on what kind of fish you are going to keep and the turnover rate you would like to achieve.
you said you need a "new" pump. does that mean you still have the old one?
if you need to replace the poump, but have the old one still, your best bet is to match that same pump.

i just bought a new tank a 240 gallon 8'x2'x2', i have to 2 draws with cheap bio balls. i plan on replacing them with spongies. the tank has water all i need is a pump and pvc piping with the check valve in it. what is the best way for me to set up the filtration?
