i recently acquired a 110g with a 20g sump w/ bioballs and a pump. The pump is a quiet one or grundfos. The thing is when i plug it in there is no water movement. How do i get this thing to pump water? the casting it is in gets hot. Very new to pumps like these any suggestions would be appreciated
Thanks
Cheers

also i hear a buzzing noise when i put my ear next to the top of the motor the square part. the noise goes away when unplugged

The sump has about 1 1/2 inches of water above the inlet and the pump is at the same level. Water was in the pump when turned on

Is this pump new or used? You didn't say.

Just guessing here. Do you have a check valve on the system? If so, is it set up in the correct direction of water flow?

sorry it is used. The guy before me used it for i have no i dea long.
This thing only has 5 screws on it and its pretty plain jane otherwise. No check valve that i can tell.
Ill go take a picture

I wish I knew the solution for you but I'm afraid I don't.

I assume that you have it hooked up so that the pump draws water out of the sump and pushes it up into the tank. I also assume that you didn't install a check valve incorrectly in the plumbing and that all safety values are open in the plumbing to allow water flow.

If all else fails, you may want to contact the manufacturer and describe what is happen to see if they can be some help.

Thank you for your help none the least.
cheers chromobotia

Have you checked if the impeller is OK?
