I'm pretty new to the sump scene, so I'm seeking some good reviews on effecient submersible pumps. I'm thinking a Quiet One 9000.

Any ideas?

Sumps are new to me also but i bought a used 180 with a sump and it had a coralife 1740p . Pump works great but my overflows will not handle every thing it gives them so i have a valve that directs the water right back into the bottom of the sump. If i did not have this my sump would run empty and tank would overfill. My 1 inch drains will not keep up. So now I'm thinking i am running a pump that takes 290 watts to run and i am not using all of its power to turn over my tank. I just bought a quiet one 6000 that only uses 145 watts almost half the power as the coralife pump. I have not installed yet but this weekend i will. So after that novel i just wrote i would say don't buy too big of a pump for your system.

things to think about when selecting a pump with the correct gph.

1. general rule of thumb is to turn the amount of gallons the tank is 3 times within 1 hour. ie....240x3=720 gph....in freshwater

2. next is to measure the height the water will flow. ie. tank is 24" + 24" stand = 4' of head pressure

3. if you are running filteration inline with the pumps output then you need a high head pressure pump. if not then a regular free flow return pump will work.

4. if you are running filteration and have 90 degree elbows then consider each bend 1' of head pressure that is lost.

hope that helps buddy...im shopping for a pump myself.... thats what i learned searching......GL

Im lookimg into the iwaki. Us made. Any input on them?

For simple return look into mag drive18. Sub or inline.

reeflos are amazing pumps, And customer service is next to none.

I actually have a reeflo dart, but its too much flow for my system. Thats why I'm looking at purchasing a smaller submersible.

Once u fig out ur set up let me know how it works. I'm about to drill my 240 but I'm not sure if I'm going to drill it at the top or both
.

I am using a Danner Hy-Drive 3200 about 6 months now on a 210G tank. Originally had a mag18 that has served me well for about 6 years but it just did not give me enough volume at 5' head.
