Pump recommendations for my 240

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use an ecoplus pump I got from Kens fish about 1500gph for like $70. Worked just fine for 2 years now, even ran dry a few times with no noticeable effect.

Im lookimg into the iwaki. Us made. Any input on them?

For simple return look into mag drive18. Sub or inline.

Iwaki pumps are second-to-none. I have two (MD-70 and MD-55) that have been running flawlessly for twelve years.

You were correct on everything in your first post except for the part about the elbows. Elbows do not affect head height at all. They will affect flow slightly, but if you are using properly sizing piping the loss is negligible.

Ok, heres the other thing. It came setup with an eshopps 400 wet/dry. I believe the overflow lines coming back into the sump are either 1" or 1.5". I'll have to check later today. Any suggestions?

Dan, I'm sort of in agreement, but any new Iwaki purchases are going to be lesser quality. At one point there was a big shakeup in the Iwaki company and a few of their engineers and designers left. Subsequently, they formed a new company, but it seems Iwaki quality suffered. Previous purchases (like a 12 year old Iwaki) will run for a good long time.

Currently, my preferred pump is a Reeflo. The hybrid series are nice for their flexibility. Creepyoldguy, I have a dart/snapper hybrid. It's just a different impeller (takes about 2 mins to change out) that pushes a lot less water. Maybe investigate that option.

Shoot an email to sales@premiumaquatics.com and see if they can get you set up. Jason and Jeremy are great about answering questions.

Otherwise, if you are set on submersibles, a pair of a Quiet One 6000s give nice redundancy and they pump well. I have a single 6000 on my 120g, and a 4000 for my 90g.

i have only had mine running for a few months but i have two quiet one 3000 running my tank. i don't really have any thing to compare to but i don't think they are all that quiet

Hijack. So a quiet one is not so good for inline? And by throttling down after the output of the pump will make the pump work less using less electricity? I'm thinking it would make the pump work harder to move the water. Sorry Creepy.

That is too bad about Iwaki. I had heard that one of their head engineers had quit and gone to Blueline, but I didn't realize Iwaki's quality had suffered.

Thats ok. I'm learning to, so I don't mind the hijack as I will benefit from this!

I have EcoPlus 1267 and it is very loud, 10-12db louder than my QuietOne and Mag.

I wrote couple times to KENS FISH that I want to replace (the same day that I got the pump) for another one, but never answer.
