Those are great looking fish. Suprise you don't see them more often in the hobby. I think my next set up I would like to have some type of brim or native set up.

DO IT!!!!! Keeping natives is patriotic. :grinyes:

I guess from what I have read that pumpkinseeds and many other natives are actually popular in Europe...where they are ovbiously not native.

well, I have caught a few of these guys and noted how beautiful they are. I can see a 55 gal tank with a couple a nice big piece of diftwood and some rocks. I think it would rock!

Anyone have an idea of the life span?

Thanks for all the info.

Yes, you can see a 55g with some driftwood, rocks and a pair of sunfish because I just got done upgradeing my pumpkins from a 30g Rubbermade bin to a 55g aquarium...looks fantastic. I'll post pics some day soon.

As for lifespan, I would imagine it would be simmler to that of a medium or large sized cichlid, around 7-10 years. I have read about sunfish living that long before.

i have a whole pond full and they are delicious fried

I found a reference to one that lived at least 14 years in a koi pond. They reach sexual maturity at around 1 1/2 years.

Thanks to all who chimed in a response. Now that I have a fish room, I can do this sort of thing.

Sandtiger, would love to see your setup pics.

Again thanks to all!
