Pumpkinseed compatibility.

Well I live in Iowa so that explains why I have never seen any. How big do Longears get?

Central longear reach 4 to 7 inches and Northern longear 3 to 5 inches.

yeah, i don't think i'm going to get a pumpkinseed, probably some o-spots, and maybe some other small sunny, but do you think i could keep a small convict (about the same size as the o-spots with about 3 o-spots?

yeah, I wouldn't trust a convict with the smaller sunnies. It may be fine if there is only one, but even then, you are starting to overstock the 25, not even sure if that is enough even for the convict. For a tank that size, I think you would be better off with the dwarf sunnies, or some darters.

you could always find a bigger tank (they are usually cheaper) you could double your size to a 50 then you could probably keep a couple sunfish.

First off you need a larger tank (I hate saying that) but ya do.

However once you get a larger tank these color fellows are great with all other native fish, I have one in my 125g and he is wonderful!

Pumpkinseeds get pretty big for a 25g, they also can get a little aggressive. I'd maybe keep one with some smaller fish that it wont fit in its mouth. i have a 72 gal bowfront and i keep one with 2 dollar sunfish, 2 yellow perch, a black crappie and a sucker and they get along very well

That sounds sweet. But darn no long ear sunfish. There georgeous.

My con's (2 pairs and a solitary female) in a 55 get along great with the other inhabitants. One of which is a 3" female Orangespot sunfish

Keep it with similar sized fish that can hold their own. In my experience, their temperaments really depend on the fish around them. If they grow large and are unchallenged by others, they are the kings (and bullies) of the tank. If the sunny is nipped at, chased or harrassed by others right off the bat, they will find a cave to claim as their territory and are relatively well behaved, but they will defend that new hide. Ive had a 5" sunny put my 7" largemouth and 12" pickerel in their place, but I have also had a 2" sunny live quite well with 4" bass and a 9" pickerel, though he fought often with the other sunnys in the tank for dominance over various caves.
