Okay so I've had my pumpkinseed for about a week or so and he hasn't eaten anything. I've tried worms, freeze dried bloodworms, flake food, pellets, algae wafers, and feeder minnows. But nothing, he doesn't even take any interest in anything. the only thing I can thing of that may be causing this is I caught him on rod and reel and maybe his mouth isn't healed completely, he has his mouth open a lot..

It should start to eat whatever you feed after a few days.

Do you intend to feed the fish bugs and such all the time?

You might as well get him used to what you will be feeding him.I dont have a pumpkin but I've got some type of sunfish that I have had since last summer. It turned up in my minnow trap and I thought it was nice enough looking. It took about a week before the sunny was accustomed to eating aquarium food and once it started it became a pig lol....the minnows that I catch are the same way.I wouldnt worry about it not eating after only a few days.

My pumpkinseed was caught via fishing as well. I started him off on live earthworms for a couple of weeks until it was well acclimated to captivity. I consider well acclimated to be when it starts recognizing me for food and get excited when I come near the tank. To pellet train him, I let him go hungry for several days and then would throw in a single pellet. Chances are, it will spit out initially. After several attempts at this, it will be hungry enough and start realizing that the hard pellet is actually food, and will ultimately keep it down...and crave it after awhile. This is how I also pellet trained my large mouth bass and small mouth bass. I find Hikari Carnivore pellets the best to initially pellet train, then I switch to NLS once they are fully converted.

Well said Raycer.

Well that's the thing, he doesn't even bat an eye at the worm, he shows no interest in anything. But he's not shy either. He follows my finger and come up to the top but doesn't eat
