Pumpkinseed feeding

No, I would like to pellet train him, but he hasn't ate since I got him. I'm getting worried
You shouldn't sweat it just yet, a healthy fish can live for months without food.

Well that's the thing, he doesn't even bat an eye at the worm, he shows no interest in anything. But he's not shy either. He follows my finger and come up to the top but doesn't eat
Did you catch him on worms? If so, he's probably learned his lesson and won't come after worms right away. Wait a few more days and try live crickets. The cricket's panicking motion at the waters surface will likely entice a bite.

Just feed him pellets and he'll eat when he gets hungry enough, I made the mistake of starting my green on bloodworms and it was a pain to get her on to fry food after that. How big is the fish? Lepomis tend to adapt better to aquarium life if brought in to captivity at 4" or less.

It usually took me a week or two to get my pumpkinseeds to eat pellets. Like xraycer said they'll spit them out at first. Also divemaster is right small sunnys adapt better than larger ones in my experience. The only sun like fish that only eat live for me was a pair of rock bass I had for a year.

I caught one of my hybrids on a worm and he won't eat them still even after like 2-3 years lol. But they mainly get pellets so it's okay.

I got a dozen crickets today to see what he would do with them trying to swim away. He showed interest. Even tried to snap at one of them. It's too bad that he didn't actually eat them. But nibbles are better than nothing. He may just take a while to adjust

You could go back to where you caught him to see if there are crawdads around if so this is the time of year when you can find tiny ones under an inch for him.
