Actually thats a long ear...Awesome fish in it's own right and one hell of a pretty fish.

I'm curious what indicates to you that it's a longear. I could be missing something, I'm not all that great with identifying sunfish sometimes.

It looks nothing like the longear in my fish tank or the ones I've caught in this state or further north. It lacks the nice rounded shape, the mouth looks a bit bigger, and the fins don't appear exactly the same (although I admit it's hard to tell when they're not up)

If anything it looks like a normal green sunfish to me, or maye a green sunfish and longear hybrid. Since green sunfish will hybridize with almost anything that doesn't seem out of the question.
I thought longear after the first pic, but it was too blurry to tell. After the 2nd set of pics I thought green sunfish.

can you get some pics of whole tank i would like to see your set up, and wow a 300g i wish i had one:drool:

My buddy said sunfish, but that is a genre type thing is'nt it. here's a pic of the tank. I've out it in other threads, but hey, I'm proud of it! Still have a long way to go.

Longears are crazy variable depending on where you catch them. At one time as many as six different locational subspecies and many more 'races' have been assigned to these fish. This is clearly a younger fish which explains well the more elongate body shape (Though I have seen adults like this). Mouth really is not out of the ordinary for a Longear.

There is nothing really about that fish that is stereotypical of a green..It does not seem to have any of the standard traits of one.

Hybrid maybe...but I do not see this one being out of natural Longear variability and I'm really not seeing intermediate traits to suggest a hybrid.

I also see 100% longear. That is just what it is.
