Pup Died

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't think the parasites would be the culprit for the death and your ray didn't look that skinny so my guess would lead somewhere back to the water or damage done before you even got the ray.

Could be, not ruling it out as I would not want to repeat the mistake the next time. My midnight testing resulted with amnonia/ nitrite 0, 7ish for ph, and a higher 20'sppm of nitrates (which for me is a pretty good reading). It's funny in my tanks I have normal readings of btwn 30-40ppm for nitrates, and I always thought that was great. After joining this site I feel ashamed when people post how readings over 10 are terrible, ehhshhh, and I know in the stickys it says that you have to maintain under 10ppm nitrate, so that very well could have been the cause, or at least added to it.

Thats really strange, you ruled out your water parameter so i guess it must be parasite...its always hard to say... because it can be many factors.

^ well, I wasn't sure about the water parameters because of the nitrate reading, I know that people recommend it to stay under 10ppm (something I have never achived to my knowledge), and even though most fish would not have been effected right away by a nitrate reading unless it was insanely high, I wasn't sure if a ray pup might be hyper sensitve to something like that.

Your nitrates were good and if your nitrates start to get to high your ray will stop eating way before it would die. Chances are it was something that happened during shipping or capture
