Anyone have this happen? I had a pup die on me for no reason last night. Out of all the pups i have bred over the years this is the second time this has happened to me. Everyone in the tank/system is fine, the pup was acting normal and ate last night. Went downstairs this morn and the pup was dead, no curl or anything. Has this happened to anyone else?

More times then I'd even like to discuss, but what else is new? lol I have more trouble with rays then anyone I know.

I have a female here that gets knocked up, I see movement like crazy, then the movement stops and that's it, gone. She's never aborted any pups. Just got done with it happening for the 2nd time. Almost lost her this time. Was off food for almost 3 weeks. Just got her eating again.

IF they end up carrying full term I usually end up loosing within the first year, and usually just like you said, never go off food, never curl, just quit moving and when touched it's obvious they're dead.

I've been redoing filtration for years cause everyone seems to think my water has nothing to do with it. Agree to disagree.... lol

Aw man sorry to hear about that.

Any water tests out of the ordinary? TDS, DO, PH swing or anything your able to test for.

Is the pup tank on a drip? If so maybe test the filtered water for traces of chlorine or change out the carbon filters.

Maybe check with the water company if they added anything (chloramine) or could be increase in fertilizer runoff getting into the water, increase in fluoride/fluorine. I'd try and start there to make sure the source waters not having a temporary issue/spike. Sucks not knowing what they're doing behind the scenes.

Im pretty sure its just a totally random death. The other 2 pups in the tank ate a ton this morning, and the adults on the same system ate 2lbs of food this morn. I just replaced 1 of the 3 drip filters a few days ago (i rotate replacing the 3 so its not all at one time)

I will be checking all params tonight but im sure nothing has changed. Ive been checking drip levels and ph about once a week for a long time now

I had this happen one other time, it was about 2 years ago with a leoleohen pup. Same exact thing, it just died. Never any explanation why...

it happens..whose to say it was completely developed inside?! it sucks for sure but happens :irked:

Sorry to hear Trev, hopefully it wasn't the female you posted about. I had a pup 2-3 years ago that did the same thing. Ate well then suddenly died for no reason. Rest of tank mates were fine and grew to adulthood.

Wasnt the crazy lookin female.

Ph checked out good. Ph was 7.9 in all 3 of my tanks. Ive never checked TDS before but i dont rely think thats the problem.
