ok, here are 2 more with the bars a tad darker-

Still looks like a male to me. The females I have seen have never had that much pearling. One of the males I got from Rapps had bars too.
 
at the size you said it was it is to early to tell if its male or female. some small ones will show the speckling and then go away. in time you will see if the front of the dorsal fin tuns black or not and that is usually the first sign you will get if you have a female. i have a female with black dorsal fin and the blue speckling that you are showing but your just going to have to wait a little longer before you know. but based on the early pics id say male. it may change though.

Thanks for the reply. You cannot tell in the pics, but the front half of the dorsal fin is much darker than the rest of it.

like i said some females will have the speckling at early stages and may go away. you really cannot tell the black on the dorsal fin for a little while as it may seem a little darker now it could also go away. you will deff know in a couple months what you have. hopefully you have a female since thats what you want. good luck bro and keep us updated with pics here and there.:)
 
yep its male hmm i think i'm going to have to stop by some of those store does ether one have any polypterus ? or any good catfish sounds like they have some good cichlids
 
very nice. todd's is no comparison to fish palace. i need to make it back there again soon. very tempted to go pick one up, but you all know what I've been doing with all my cichlids, so it's probably a bad idea, lol.
