I have no experience but going off the recommendations of a medium breed young dog with energy to keep up with the Savannah, what about a Border Collie?

Border Collies are a herder. They are pretty common in agility and frisbee competitions. Might be a bit bigger than you are wanting, but we have a boxer with 3 cats (that think they are lap dogs). She is wonderful and EXTREMELY active doesn't chase the cats as we get her as a puppy and the cats put her in her place at a young age.
Beagels are huntimg dogs but not attack. They flush mainly. No worries there. Thry are IMO very actove.
