Is it me or do thoses mechanical filters SUCK ?????

What the hell. i used to run a Blueline 100 with my tallboy purflow mech filter but as soon as i got to 10psi the water restriction was so crazy that the water turnover got retarded slow.
so i figured my pump was too weak.
I got a Reeflow HammerHead and basicly same thing happens but at about 15psi
What the hell????
Anyone got experience with those kind of filter. If so please share.
i dont get it .

Don`t know what you expect.
These guys filter in the 20 micron range, so if you have a bunch of free floating gunk, it`s gonna plug.
The more gunk, the faster it plugs.
How do you clean your filter?
How long before you clean it?
Any other filtration?
I run filters in the 8 micron range and only get close to 2 weeks before they need cleaning.
Just the price I pay for crispy water.

I run a Blue Line 55 HD 1100gph pressure pump on a Nu-Clear 533 w/25 micron filter , It will start clean filter at 0-3psi dirty when I change it around 5-10psi
3-5 months later.

@ Kaiser it is 25 micron, i clean by hosing it down then let it soak in water with bleach for 24-48 hours then hose it down again and then soak again in water for 24 hours.
i clean as soon as i see flow going down so every 5 days about. ( i am overstocked 9 arowana + 5 Dat + 1 FTR + 1 TSN all that in a 500g)
water parameters are fine 0-0-10
As far as other filtration i got 2 blue coarse sponge were the water enters the sump followed by that white filtering stuff.

You don't have the right pump, those pumps are circulation pumps they don't work, you need a pressure rating pump.

Such as ? ( name brand )

Right, I knew it was in the 20 micron range, just not the exact figure.
From your description, I would say your cleaning is not much different from how I clean mine.
From your stock listing I would guess your filter gets gummed up by the volume of organics your wet-pets are pumping out.
I get a few more days out of my filter cartridges by shutting the filters down during feeding.
By pure luck, I got the flow in my tank so the major poop deposits land in 2 places.
I use a battery powered vac once or twice a day to get most all the poop my Malawi Maniacs pump out.
A different pump might give you a little extra time between cleanings, not sure if I would spend the money or just live with the cleaning schedule.
I have found that pleated filter cartridges, even ones cleaned very well, eventually get enough pores plugged that they need to be replaced.
Not saying yours are ready for replacement.

Kaiser i would like to see what are you running what filter, what pump if you can put some pics of your set up, why I say this, because i believe you don't have this type of filtration; or if you do; you haven't learn how to use it, in the past you have given the wrong info about this type of canisters making me believe you have it wrong or simply you don't have any experience what so ever.
This type of canisters they don't work as the rest of canisters including the magnum micron, (gravity feed) water goes in the canister by gravity
and back to the tank by the pump.
Pressure canister require pressure pumps to get them work, other wise you get no flow even if the cartridge its clean, a circulation pump won't
do it even a 3000 gph your flow will go down in a hurry.
Now if you read inkslinger he its running a blue line 55HD thats a pressure pump he's cleaning schedule its 3 to 5 months.
No need to replace cartriges here every time they get clog, just use a bucket with one cup of chlorine and water, live it over nite
rinse the next day, it will be as new, I have one that I been using for 3 years .

The fact that your filters are clogging up so fast is a testament to their effectiveness. I run two canisters, one with a micron cartridge and the other with just biomedia, off a Iwaki 40rlxt, which is better suited for circulation, and I still get 2-3 months out of one cartridge. Granted, your stockload seems a lot greater than mine, but even then you are running a much larger pump and you have pre-filtration. I think you're worrying about flow rate a little too much, unless it's down to a trickle you can stagger your cleanings a little bit longer, and possibly add a powerhead or two if you're worried about in-tank circulation. If that doesn't suit your needs, then add more prefiltration, or look to replace your 25 micron cartridges with 100 micron ones, which will still adequately filter out particulates.

So the blueline 55HD is a presure rated pump.
i was running a blueline 100 is that not a pressure rated pump??? im looking online and when i google blueline 100 all the pumps that show up are 100HD and they look just like mine ?????

Is this a pressure Rated Pump im getting a little confused. Is the blueline 100 the same thing as a blueline 100HD ? Is there such thing as a blueline 100 ( no HD )

DSC_0100.JPGDSC_0101.JPGThis is my current set up. I know there are many thing that should of been done differently but its my first W/D sump i used canister filter for the last 10 years . fell free to comment on it ( it will only help me )

As you can see my water is pretty cleart.JPG ( the little specs are air bubbles )

So what im thinking is to:
A- Set up my purflow to my blueline as a in-sump closed loop.
Or
B- take my submerged media ( ceramic rings, Matrix )
DSC_0103.JPG and dump it in the purflo canfilter and use the free space in my sump to add more filtering media ( the coarse blue stuff and the finer white stuff )DSC_0102.jpg

Any Input ?
Thanks

It hard to read the tag on your pump, but to me thats not a 100HD, the 100HD has a flow of 1900 gph at 45ft of pressure, thats a lot pressure for a single canister, with pump you should be able to blow your fish out of the water. I had in the past the 55HD running 2 canisters in line on my 220 and it was a lot flow , now I'm running 40HD and its plenty of flow. The HD-X series are circulation pumps.
