Purigen: Buying and Using

I see that there are a few Purigen fans. I am planning to change my chemical filtration to it the next time it needs to be replaced. I have a 75G, a 46G, a 36G, a 28G and a 29G. Filters are primarily Rena canisters.

Is it better to buy in bulk or in baggies? The baggies seem convenient, but wondering whether the 100 ml increments are the best for my situation.

If you buy in bulk you'll need media bags fine enough to hold the Purigen. I think DrsFosterSmith's site's standard media bag is about 700 micron, which is not fine enough to hold Purigen.

I had to buy Seachem's "The Bag" (5" x 10" 100 micron bag), which is about $7 I think.

The 100 ml bags packed full are actually quite a bargain. I went the other route and got "the bag" (Like 4 of them) And a few liters of purigen and only saved a couple bucks. I say go ahead and buy the 100 ml bags. BTW the stuff ROCKS!

I agree, buy the 100ml bags. In my opinion, you need to add more purigen than they recommend for a tank, anyway. My 60 gallon has close to 100ml in it and it only lasts a few months before I need to bleach it anyway. If you put more in, it lasts longer before it needs bleached.

So add several of the 100 ml bags. I keep 500 ml in my AC110 on a 90 and it only needs a charge about every 3 months. Either way you cant go wrong 100 ml packets or bulk in "the bag"
