"Tanniny"........ defined in Websters by a picture of CapeFear's tank!

HAHA...exactly.

Will carbon help if I put 500ml of it in there as well?

Also, cchhcc, did you see my question to you when you responded to me about the reeflo pumps? If not, could you see what you think about my questions?

I'd go with carbon until primarily since it can be had more cheaply in bulk. I suppose you could recharge the Purigen, but I'd prefer to just use and discarb carbon.

I'll check that link...

i just bought it, it is helping alot in my tank with tanins, and if you read the back it is reusable, all you have to do is wash it in a bleach solution over night then the next day was it with some dechlorinator

I'll reuse it once if I'm feeling cheap. But after that it looses alot of its Umf, in my opinion.

Purigen is a great product a lot more cost effective than carbon. I use it primarily when I have to go out of town and the tank will be on it's own for 3-4 days. I don't like coming home to surprises.....otherwise it's just consistant water changes...

BTW I like my water for the most part tea colored....

It works pretty well for me in my 235. Great for keeping the water clear. Not sure about using it to cut down on water changes though, that sounds like a bit of a gamble!

Where have you got yours in your sump Capefear? I place mine in my narrowest baffle that separates the bio-chamber from the return pump section, it's like maybe 20mm wide. You might just be suffering from not getting the water flow through the media if it is easier for the water to go around. If you have a canister somewhere on that 600g I'd dump the purigen in there.

I have it in the front of the sump, surrounding the discharge pipe on its way out to the tank. Basically, it has to go through the purigen before it goes out into the tank, but youre right, the flow might not be stron enough there.

I think Im just being impatient. My tank was seriously dark from the wood. The tank is 7' long and I cant see 4' in it from the side. Ive done water changes 2x since I put it in and it helps. Now, after I get a new pump, Ill put 500ml of carbon in it as well.

Thanks!
