purple spot goby?

i saw a fish labeled purple spot goby at my lfs today.when i came home and looked it up all i found was other people asking for info with no luck,and this:

does anybody know of this "purple spot goby'?

I think they only get about 5" thats how big my little tubby pig is.
water pH is not an issue to and they seem to bully larger fish whats not to love!

it's actually called a purple spotted gudgeon. the belong to the genus mogurnda. i believe what you have is a either a Mogurnda adspersa or a Mogurnda mogurnda. the two are pretty hard to distinguish. here's a little info on both.

There are two "purple-spotted gobies", the are actually a related family, elotidae (sleepers and gudgeons), one is currently protected from collection. That is the Western spotted gudgeon (Mogurnda adspersa) and it gets around 5 1/2"
The other is the more common Morgunda morgunda, also called a spotted trout gudgeon, it is a bit larger (7"). Both tolerate 9-20dH, 6-8pH, and can be kept at tropical temps but the adspersa prefers the mid 60s F. They will eat some algae but mainly eat any living creature small enough to get into their mouths

I love mine it's got great personnality...The little guy is very camera shy..but not people shy it is killing me!

well not alot of info but i do know that mine use to daty at the top of the tank and never bothered anyfish it was with..dont know if theat helped

I am looking fo rthe scientific name and a picture on this guy. Need info -- what does he eat? Fresh or brackish?/
