putting a fish out of his misery?? help pls...

my flowerhorn attacked my parrot over the weekend and his skin is badly taken a beating, so i put him in a separate tank and hoped hed be ok but hes in really bad shape now and is just moving his gills without even moving, what should i do guys?? its horrible to see.
 
There's a thread about the ways to euthanize a fish on this forum; I remember reading it a few weeks ago. If you can dig that up, then you'll have a better understanding of how to properly euthanize a fish while causing little/no pain and an instant/quick death.

Do you want to save the fish's body after it is dead?
 
Don't go with the pure cold route in my opinion. It works with small fish, but cichlids seem to linger too long in my opinion. It took a 4" severum nearly 2 minutes to die immersing it in water crusting over with ice for me once. I'll never do it again.

I'd go with the clove oil to anesthetize, then vodka to kill.

Sorry to hear you're having to do this though. It sucks to lose a good fish. :(
