I have had my malawi tank running for about 3 weeks now and was wondering if I should put some pleckos in with them. Will they live in the tank and will they be eaten by the other fish. It's a 90 gallon tank and I have started to notice a little bit of algae along the bottom of the crushed coral. Let me know if this is okay

you shouldn't add it just for algae control...that should be done by the fishkeeper. If you want a pleco, then try adding a bristlenose

why not some syno's

My little bristlenose has kept my tank spotless for the month he has been in there. Even though he eats algae wafers hes still a cleaning machine!

Most synodontis dont clean up the algae.. I have a Albino BN pleco in each tank and all do a fine job on the unwanted brown algaes but really they dont take care of the tuffy looking hair algae..

Also Nerites snails will do a good job at eating algae..

In a 90 gallon i would ad 3-4 Synos and 2 BN.. I have 3synos and 1 BN in my 55 gallon and they have been fine.

Good Luck!

I have 2 commons in my cichlid tank and they survive fine. I need to get rid of one though as it is just useless to have 2 and one was a rescue anyways. However, they don't get harassed by the cichlids at all.

Plecos will often work out in an african tank but its not uncommon for them to get torn to bits.Ive had a bn in my mbuna tank for a few years with no trouble.
