so this build is in the distant future but ive been doing a lot of thinking about it lately and was wondering, how do you get glass in a concrete tank, tank is going to be in the basement, dimensions 10 ft wide 14ft long and about 6-8ft deep, any clue as to how thick i would need to make this glass? im thinking two viewing window in the front about 5ft by 5ft. would a 6 inch overlap on all sides of the glass suffice?

sorry edit the title: putting glass in a concrete tank

For 5' x 5' viewing windows, I come up with 2" thick glass.

6 inch overlap would be fine.

any idea on how to put this into concrete?

Honestly, check with johnptc or go to his 10K tank build thread. I know he had some information regarding sealing in there. He would have a better idea as he has the hands-on experience.

the search feature doesnt seem to be working correctly on the site, i typed in his name and just got a messed up google search page

Make sure you are typing in the top search box as there are two. or better yet, click the advanced search and search for threads created by him.

I saw a post last week asking about this, and If I remember correctly he originally I believe he tried to just primer the concrete and silicone the glass to the to that, but there were leaks with the expansion/contractions that occurred with the temperature shifts in the weather. His solution was to use a stainless steel frame for the glass. I'd still double check out his thread as I'm not 100% on that, and there's quite a bit of information in there.

i read over his thread and there was a ton of good information, but i was looking for a little more detail about how he installed the glass so i pmd him
