Wow! That turned out fantastic!!

Yeah, the small gravel makes the job pretty easy - just spread a layer of silicone over the PVC, pour some gravel over the silcone and press on it firmly to get it seated. I'd hate to think of how much more difficult it would be with the larger rocks you guys are using!!

I just used the same method as you, but when finished there are still lots of spots left without stones. I had to add spots of silicone and stick stones into the voids......a slow job.

nice job to everyone. The projects came out very well done.

Bassinkorea, I know how you feel. It took me 2 hours to fill in the voids. It was worth it though.

i did this like a year ago pics can be seen in the link in my signature,
i used a ton of silicone smeared on sand and fine gravel and reapplied twice untill it looked good, it held up decent, i also coated my overflow with it,
i dont think you guys will have the same problem as me cause you used large gravel but my cichlids actually ripped some of the silicone of from the inside of the pipes, so the inside is bare but they never touched the outsid so it still looks pretty good,

for anyone else whos looking to do this fine gravel is easier to apply (alot easier)
but larger gravel appears to hold up better

The thread is a useful tool. Go ahead and start your own project and feel free to post any questions and pictures here.

Heres the one I made years ago...3" pvc & 2" pvc covered in river rocks...

Bgcoop, that's quite the cave system you've got there. I really like the color and size of the gravel used. I too used GE Silicone I and it's holding up well. Moving the DIY project does however knock off a few pieces of gravel.

that's just the good ol' Walmart aquarium gravel in the lil 2 dollar bags, i keep a bunch of bags just for lil diy projects. oh and i saw some one say something about using them for bgk's, my small one likes hiding under this rather than in it, lol.
