Just wondering how long after I use PVC cement I can start running tank water through it. It says its safe for potable water. Thanks.

i hope soon, i read it and i thoght it was safe 30 min to an hour bc i started runig water at 45 after and no problems yet and its been a week
Ok, well, its been sitting since this morning but still smells slightly of cement. I rinsed the insides of the pvc fittings, but the tank has fish in it so I wanted to be extra careful.
Depending on the type of cement and the temperature, a PVC glue joint will hold pressure (80 lbs.) after anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes.
However, I try to let all my PVC cure for at least 24 hours before using it with fish, it off-gasses a lot for the first few hours - Would you want to be stuck in a 15 cubic foot room with a fresh PVC joint?

thanks, I think I'll give it another hour and start up this wet/dry again. its been curing since fairly early this morning.
If you use just enough glue to weld the joints then you should only have to wait a couple of minutes, then cycle water through it for a couple more.

yeah as long as you dont over do the cement then it will be ready to use in a matter of minutes...
I read online that proper drying time is 24hrs and the pipes should be flushed w/ water before use.
well, its been running since last night around 2am eastern time (Insomnia is a terrible, but productive, thing). No problems so far. I had let it air out for at least 8-10 hours and then flushed it out with water from the sink for a few minutes. Thanks for all the advice!
