PVC for a heater guard...

here in nc at my local home depot cpvc comes in sizes up to a inch and a half and that size is only like a buck a foot.

nope not right now like I mentioned to you I shut down my current sump and replace with the one I just bought.
 
As long as the PVC is underwater there is no problem with the heater touching. Water is a good heat conductor so the PVC could never get hot enough to burn. Just think about the plastic heater clips for example!

I use a drop saw and cut a few vertical slits for circulation. Its faster and more effective IMO than drilling lots of holes.
 
why do you need a heater guard? should i have one? i thought the heater was fine by itself?my fish sometimes just chill out right under the heater. its just another hiding spot.
 
If you have big enough fish they can break it, by ramming into it. I've heard of this with pacu specifically but I'm sure aros or any of the bigger "glass-banger" type cichlids could do it also.
