For the return to the tank should I use pvc again or something else you think? Like should it be that flexable plastic like on syphons?

You can use pvc, it all depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Just keep in my PVC elbow reduce the flow rate. Also you need to keep in my that if your return goes below the water level, you'll have to deal with the return syphoning water from the tank back to the sump. Either put a checkvalve, I did something else but i can't really describe it so i'll post a pic if you're interested

A check valve is the thing you put on the bend from over the tank that sucks the air out of it?

what's up fellow conrades? Well as you know i'm a dummy to this diy stuff. but i luv the mental challenge but it can be tiredsome. Anyway, i've finially completed my sump which is a 5 gal bucket in a 20 gal sump. the first problem was i was using 3/4 in pipe on my diy overflow box.(2 specimen containers) i finially used 11/4 in bulkheads (conduit) the scew in better with o-ring.I got pipe to match bulkheads and now the flow is sick (Good) I still haven't learned how to build an overflow wit pvc yet. i'm a visual person, i need to see it play by play. Anyway, my media consist of lava rocks with ceramic rings at bottom of bucket. Eggcreate over that and the rest is filled wit scrubbies. however, i've changed the water conditioned it etc... the water is clean but i still don't have that crystal clear affect. It's been running for a day now and water is still slightly cloudy. not crisp & clean. does anybody know what's wrong?
I am currently running an Emperor 400, Rena xp3 and a Aqua clear 110 all this on my 75 gal. My water was clearer before sump. The sump was to help eliminate hob filters and to make water clearer. Will my sump and Rena xp3 be enough to regulate my tank? thanks 4 the input.

butchkidd, Please start a thread of your own as this is a 2 yr old thread and you will get a better response.
