Take it outside and prime it with a hose.

As you haven't responded to other suggestions...I think you are expecting it to run when its designed to stop.

I agree.
You need to work on this where you don`t have the pressure of messing up the house on your mind.
A couple of 5g buckets set close to the relationship of sump and tank will work. No buckets, look around for something else you can use.
Get flow through the overflow then fire up the pump.
See what happens.
Honest, these things are not rocket science.
If you follow the build guides, it will work.
Maybe another trip through whichever guide you used for this project would help.

I was having the same problem and just tried some of these solutions. Here's to hoping my overflow is fixed too.

(although mine loses suction after about an hour so it may take a while to check lol)
