PVC Overflow Question

But that only makes it five inches tall The flow is maximized when the length is maximized. The unit is a syphon; the syphon is strongest when the distance from the surface of the water and lowest point prior to venting (the tee) are at their longest.

so what do u figure the flow on a 4 inch pvc overflow like that would be??? the tank is 3 feet tall so i could put the tee at about 3 feet below the water surface i guess

Using the following input parameters
Gallons per Hour = 9500
Drain and Overflow sizes are calculated as
Recommended minimum drain pipe diameter = 4.03 inches
Recommended minimum linear overflow size = 143 inches

9500 gph, you would need 12 feet of intake pipe fom the tank to the sump filter though!!!!!

I'd like to see the figures for how much water 12 feet of 4 inch pvc holds, yer gonna need a BIG sump

I didn't kno your dimensions so the zeros are unknowns really...

Using the following input parameters
Tank Length = 0 inches
Tank Width = 0 inches
Height of Water above Overflow = 2 inches
Flow through sump = 9500 gph
Sump volume is calculated as
Sump Volume need to handle tank overflow = 0 Gallons
Recommended Minimum Volume for sump = 95 Gallons

the tank is 7 feet long and 3 feet wide and 3 feet tall roughly

also i don't need 9500 gph of flow thats almost 20 times my tanks volume an hour i have one overflow that is pushing 2200gph so i was thinkin about that much again making a total of almost 4500gph which should be good in combination with my fx5, so maybe i will do 2.5" or sumthing any suggestions would be great

actually according to the calculator it would be

Recommended minimum drain pipe diameter = 1.94 inches
Recommended minimum linear overflow size = 33 inches

which works out good if i used 2 inch pvc, the surface of the water is 6 feet off theground tho so my flow would probably be higher
