pvc versus abs for plumbing a tank ?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I did not use the "herbie" plumbing method (and not sure if that really matters) but based on experience from a family member, we decided to use gate valve on at least the primary drain so we could better control the flow and noise. I used a ball valve fully opened for my second drain (no valve for third beanianimal). The gate valve does not cost that much more than ball valve so I still think it was a good idea for my implementation...something for you to consider too.

Thank you . I am planning a sump for my new 240 . Im planning on using my 4 ft 50 gallon. I also have been waiting for a steal on a fluval sp6 for this set up. my fish need a fair amount of flow To be happy. I like the fact the pump pulls less wattage. I then did some more research and loved the k1 kaldness idea but i had to scratch that idea.there is no where here to get it and when i try purchasing it from amazon they will not ship it here. So i am now looking into a good wet/dry sump with bio balls/scrubbies. there are three holes drilled one 11/2" for the out take on one side and a box with one 1 1/2" Hole and a 2" hole drilled on the other side. Im really new to this diy stuff if you can direct me to the right place or any suggestiosns are welcome. the tank is being made by someone else and it should be ready in a week or so give or take.

I just finished the plumbing on my 300. Went with sch 40 pvc drains and return (3 of each). But i used sch 80 bulkheads. So much sturdier. It wasn't by my choice, the holes were drilled specifically for sch 80 bh.
