Schedule 40 PVC! NO CPVC!!

sch 20 affords more flow and if you clean, prime, and cement you'll have no problems...

Gimme a break :shakehead.

why shake your head? For a given size of pipe, be it schedule 20, 40 or 80 the OD is the same. The wall thickness on a Schedule 20 is less than a schedule 40, so the ID is greater, so the cross section is greater. If its a gravity fed: larger cross section = greater flow.

I know what he was saying. It's kind of like saying your car will go faster if you scrape all the paint off.

no it isnt.

Your car will not go faster if you scrape of the paint, but you will get an appreciable increase in flow by using the thinner walled schedule 20 vs schedule 40

probably not huge difference but surely measurable

It depends on the size of the pipe. For a 4" pipe the difference between the schedule 20 and the schedule 40 is not so great, but the smaller the diameter the larger the % increase you get. I would take schedule 20 over schedule 40 every day of the week in 1" sizes or smaller if it were easy to obtain

This is why I said gimme a break.

Yes, you will get more flow out of sch20. Is it worth the wobbly nature of sch20, or the extra care required putting it together, or is it worth even debating? Probly not. Will your vehicle go faster if you scrape the paint off? Yeah, actually... race teams who do not have to meet weight minimums and who do not advertize sponsors on their cars have been known to do this, as have some airlines. Is it worth doing in any normal situation though? Gimme a break.

Youve obviously never used it. its not a hassle to use at all. and for someone so concerned with efficiency you are very quick to dismiss the benefit of the increased cross section of the schedule 20, Q=V*A incase you forgot.
it may be worth discussing to some people, perhaps people who are more concerned with making educated decisions vs people just concerned with winning an argument.

and YOUR car will not go faster if you take the paint off because the metal will oxidize and will create more drag on the car. if you want to continue the conversation out of context we can discuss the plumbing at the monterey bay aquarium....
