Whenever I do a water change on my tank the water gets cloudy. The substrate is sand and I remove the detritus with a siphon when I do my water changes. I usually change 15 gallons at least once a weak. After the water change my water gets cloudy and stays that way for awhile. Whenever I do my water change I remove my filter media and set it in a bucket with tank water and a battery powered airstone. Any idea why this is and how I can fix it?

How long is awhile ? could also depend on the type of sand you have in the aquarium.

what type of filter media are you using? I have sand in most of my aquariums also, I just unplug the filter before siphoning, I just remove sponge and swish it around in water that was removed from tank place sponge back, plug filter back up.

How long has the tank been set up? I had all kinds of cloudiness issues like this for the first few months I set up my first tank.

I run a whisper ex70 HOB and a 45g sponge filter. The tank has been running with this set up for about 6 months or so. It clears up after a few days but at that point its ready to have another PWC.
