i just don't get why ppl would think they wouldn't be ok solo? i have had a solo red that was a finger chaser and i had to move a caribe to a hospital tank . the caribe was the b*tch of the tank but in the hospital he was extremely aggressive.

just curious,

What about shyness. Tetras and other shoaling fish are less skittish when kept in groups. Are pygos less skittish when kept with homies?

I think it depends on the personality of the fish and the size it is at...when I only had 3 rbp's at around 2" they huddled in a corner when I increased the shoal to 6 they were braver...if I am correct ryeguy has a small solo rbp and it is fine. I have also seen large pygos in tanks by them selves and they were fine.

This topic can be debated over and over and experimented with but the results will probably never be conclusive...the point of this thread was to get peoples opinions..not to bash one anothers point of view OR their credibility.

ive had similar results alyssa i had 4 baby rbp's now that i have 8 there much braver (though this could be because of the bigger tank)

Mine never had a tank size change (were in a 30 at this point) it was strictly due to shoal size.

my little 3incher eats with the lights on and doesnt hide i cant wait till its just him in that 40gal he will look so tiny but im getting a mac to replace him though

and you know what its fine having your own opinion

and i may not aggree with it but your right to have your own opinion on this thast the beauty of free speech

i have never however heard of a piranha being less skitish when alone less weary of its surrondings but when we say skitish we usualy mean like "jumpy" when a person walks into a room and they go and hide. while in a group a different kind of skitishness appears they become more aware of whats happening inside there little glass box while the reverse is true when theres only one (they begin to notice you more and may become more responsive)

good luck with your mac! make sure to post pics :)

i will indeed :)

well i think im getting a mac but i have no clue what ill realy end up comming back with lol
