How do you clean you gravel? Or do you use bare tanks?

I vacuum the gravel exactly the same way as you would with a python. The only difference is that the drain hose on the python is running to an adapter attached to a spigot on your sink. I simply run the drain hose outside instead of to the python adapter on the spigot in the sink.

Since I am draining the water directly onto my lawn, it requires no lifting, or my sink as a source of vacuum for the drainage. Again, since the draining of the tank(s) does not require the usage of the sink, it can than be utilized to "fill" tank(s) at the same time that you are draining other tanks! With 19 tanks running, I require the multitasking described above.

As carefree-dude pointed out though, winter season can make this method impractical by letting cold air into your home during wc's.

The 1/2" poly. hose runs 31 cents per foot at Lowes. Inexpensive, easy and fast!

I'm gonna throw it out there and claim the Aqueon brand water changer is far superior in quality to the python. However, order the python brand brass sink connector, then you have the best of both worlds.

i feel like i know you ACWO after reading justins thread. it made me wish i lived near you guys just to help and learn. fantastic backround on your tank btw. why do you like the aqueon brand more? my python came with the brass attachment so i really don't see what could be better unless the whole thing was made of brass? dave

I dont know how your huse is layed out but you could try running the drain hose to your shower or toilet so the water doesnt have to come back up hill to a sink..maby it would drain faster ...

Do you guys just dump tap water into your tanks ?

You can use prime and treat for the entire volume of the tank before using the python the refill the tank.

this is what i do also. i treated for the additional 20 gallons then filled. with the xp3 running the whole time along with the fill the circulation is crazy. now how long it takes to get rid of any chlorine from the tap i do not know?
