So, in my mission to make these massive wc's easier, I have investigated this python system. It seems like it is something I should definitely own.

My question, before I run to the store and buy a $60 product is this: is it possible to hook my "tank use only garden hose" to the piece that attaches to the sink, rather than buy the whole setup? I don't need the gravel vac, and I would think my hose would work just as good to pull the water out as it does putting it in. I just don't know.if it will actually connect to that piece.

Yes you can get adapters to fit the sink at Home Depot or Lowes. What I do, is I just siphon water OUT of my tanks using the hose and not the sink. You could just put the hose in the tank, take the hose outside and siphon it out. Drains alot quicker that way.

I have an adaptor for my sink for the host to hook to it. I was thinking of an easier way to drain the tank, and this python thingy drains as well.

Right now I use a 6 ft. Piece of 1 1/4 inch clear tubing from Lowe's. I siphon it myself into buckets. Refill with garden hose from sink.

I'm not sure I could create a suction with a 50ft. Hose myself (not to mention its not clear so that greatly increases my chances of getting a mouthful of tank water.

Thoughts? I can buy just the sink piece of the python minus the hose n gravel vac for about 10$ or is there an easier way and I'm just not getting it?

Does the Aqueon extension hose work with the Python?

I need to add 10 more feet to my Python, but all I see are the Aqueon systems at the LFS.

Just hook your hose to your spigot with the end underwater. Turn it on for a couple seconds to fill it with water and then turn it off and unscrew your hose from the spigot. This should start the siphon with no need to suck on it and let it drain into your yard. This is what I do as well as let my python drain into my yard to make water changes much quicker. Then I refill through my python. Hope this helps.

Creating a siphon in a long hose is easy.

1. Attach head of hose to sink.
2. Put end of hose in bucket.
3. Turn on water 'til all the air is out of the hose.
4. Turn off water.
5. Put end of hose in tank.
6. Detach head of hose. Keep it just above the height of the top of the tank and walk it to wherever you want to dispose of the water.
7. Drop head of hose below level of tank.

8. Marvel as gravity makes life easy.

Ya know, it's pretty obvious that as science was never my strong point. Gonna try now lol thanks so much, as always, for all the help.

Maybe something like Jehmco's Safety Siphon would serve you well:

They have some pretty nifty stuff! Lol. I got it going now. It's not going fast, cause I managed to get some kinks in this cheap hose overnight, but it's going. I've come a long way from 5 gallon buckets in just a short time!

I wanna say I coulda hooked a hose up to the fx5 and pulled out water that way too. I think I read that somewhere. But, I need to take baby steps lol.

It's nice to just sit here on the couch and watch my tank empty! Thanks for everyone's help!

+1 on filling hose then just unattach and bring outside and bam siphon. thats how i used to do my 500g just lower hose to desired depth and siphon will break when done. (dont ask about fillibg it i frequently would get sidetracked during a 3hr waterchange and flood the basement)
