is it just me, or is the suction on the python not that great? I love them for filling my tank but I get WAY better suction with my manual siphon that doesnt hook up to my sink...I used the python to clean my gravel in my 125 and had to redo it with my other vacuum because it didnt pick up anything..btw I use the 50 footer. Also, really seems like a waste of water since you have to turn the faucet up full blast to get any type of suction..thoughts?

Pythons aren't that great of hoses (i love them but they aren't). I used one for a year before everything broke on me and i mean everything the green part that attaches to the sink broke and the switch near the end broke off to during the same water change... i was mad lol. they are really easy to use and do waste alot of water if your takeing water out. I dont use mine for gravel vacing tho i use 1 to fill my tank while i gravel vac with a manual. Petsmart (where i work) doesnt carry them anymore (dont know why) but have another brand that is the exact same thing besides the hose in pritty rigged. The Petsmart i work in has used the same one since they opened and the only thing that broke was the switch on the end (same as mine) but they do not use the green adapter so idk if thats a common problem.

i have not had a problem with anything breaking yet, and like i said they are great for filling, but most people here swear by them I just dont see it.

I gave up on a python early on. On my 240 I plumbed a tee into the suction side of my pump and divert the waste before it hits my cartridge filters.
On my 100 I siphon directly onto my front lawn while vacuuming. Ahh the joy of living in Cal.

You dont have to hook it up to the faucet for a suction. If you are paying for your water, that is a lot of water being wasted. Just use gravity for a suction. Place the suction thing tube below the tank and it will suction automatically like the non pythons.

I do not use the python anymore because the suction was too slow. But if you live on like the top floor you can place the tubes down the stairs or through the window for a more powerful suction.

I think you probably got lost somewhere on what I am trying to say but that is how I used to do it.

I also siphon out into a tub so that we can save the water for use in the garden. Then I hook up to the faucet to refill the tank. No point wasting water and just flushing all that nutrient goodness down the drain!

its your water pressure, not the python. they function off a venturi valve, they greater the water pressure going through it, the greater the suction. hook up it your garden hose outdoors instead of the faucet and see the difference. thats what i do, she'll suck the paint off a buick!

I am agreeing with the op. I just got one from a guy and I am not impressed with the sucking ability. I am using it to fill my tanks cause its a pain to lift 5 gal bucks up to top off my 210. Spec since i had to make it tall so that cat wouldnt climb on top..
