i know what i need to know and what i dont know, i find out when i need to.

But if you wait for a 'need' to learn new information isn't it already too late?

If your MFK name is neoprodigy or gr8karmasf, you may be able to consider yourself an advanced aquarist.

Not at all, im still an egg with much to learn and always will be. If I didnt learn anything new anymore this forum would have eventually bore me and I would have left...lol

yes! of course.

Perhaps the question can be asked in reverse.
If you don;t know about XYZ then you are not really an advanced aquarist.

This might be more applicable...

I do know that one thing you do NOT need to know are Latin Names, spelling or punctuation...lol

im learning all the time, reading lots of stuff and have been for years.

but some times i dont know that i need to know something untill the situation happens.

example, my pearls have running spots because of a treatment i used which caused them great stress. i never knew anything about this being able to happen so i dident know ide have to know about how too treat it.

once it happend i found out everything i need to know and now they are pulling threw and coming back strong.

(the treatment was supposidly 100% ray safe or i would never have touched it)

Quoting information you got from someone else and not learning or living it yourself takes away some merit of being labeled an expert.

To be advanced, I think that you should be well versed in ALL aspects of aquaria: Fish knowledge, disease related issues, chemistry, biology, building, plumbing, electrical etc.... This is one of the few hobbies in the world that requires a lot of info on vary different levels.

Yeah, until you cross from 'hobbiest' to 'professional' world... and you use one common name to get an animal, and they send you something completely different than you expected. :grinno:

(Like "zebra shark" and "leopard shark"... two vary different animals that go by both names depending which way the wind is blowing.)
