Can somebody please explain to me the differences between 'F0' and 'F1' please? Fraid I aint got a clue what this is referring to. Anything else of interest would be great too - I'm assuming I can keep them as per other severums no problem?

(FYI I've just got my first Rotkeil 'red headed' severum after a few months of waiting for one (got it for £15 here in the UK). Have kept both green and gold severums in the past but never one quite as beautiful as this. Only 4" at the mo and very very shy, but doing ok)

thanks

F0 refers to a wild caught fish and F1 refers to the first generation of wild caught parents. F2 would be the offspring of F1 parents, and so on.

And yes, they are essentially just like other sevs.

thanks 'chaitika'. I'm guessing there's not really any way of telling one from the other visually? (daft question I'm sure, but no harm in asking eh)

No way to know for sure if the fish are wild caught. Its mostly a matter of faith in your supplier.

Lucky bugger. Been trying to convince myself my male sev is an F0 for the best part of 3 years now :D

Aint seen the red shouldered affair yet, not sure i should... dont think i could control my buying instinct :(

Lets see the pics then :)

nice avatar. I'm gettin 10x 1" rotkeil in this thursday. they are also f1s by the way.
how is the growth rate on rotkeils?

SLOW. had my two for 6 month and grew .5 inches.

don't want to take any photos just yet - it is very shy so don't want to freak it out with my flash. Give it a few weeks to settle in and I'll post a pic up here for sure tho :)

There's no clear-cut way to tell, but F0 fish are likely to be much more skittish than F1 or higher, which would naturally be tank bred.
