SLOW. had my two for 6 month and grew .5 inches.

wow thats freakin real slow. did the two have the tank(size?) for themselves or were there other fish in the tank?

I bought 6 x 1" F1s back in April and the largest is about 5 or 5.5". None of them have developed the red shoulders yet though.. Anybody know how long it takes for the stripes to fade?

nice. glad to know they don't grow that slow. What size tank were you growing them in? any tankmates?
(Do the red colors stay or do they come and go as spawning colors?)w

They share a 110 with a pair of firemouths, a pair of angels and bunch of mollies. I have seen adults for sale around here and they all had the red colors so I don't think it is a temporary spawning thing. BTW the adults I saw for sale were small for severums and priced at $65, made me happy to see since I paid $5 bucks each for mine when they were babies. Mine are growing everyday but have showed no signs of pairing. I hope they get huge cause I have seen some really big turqouise severums out there but have never seen any really big rotkeils.

I'm not sure they ever fade away completely.

Here's my breeding pair.

I realize the stripes do not fade completely but they still have the same juvenile coloration they had at 1" and I measured the largest one today and he is 6" from head to tail. What is the age/size of the pair you have in the picture?

lol, i do love a happy couple :)

My male sev kicks the tar out of my female constantly (she does give as good as she gets though) and she is a sorry sight.

My male is stunning, but my female is nothing to look at, unlike the above pair, who are, honestly, stunning. :D

One day i'll find a pair locally, see what happens.

fraid I had to relocate my rotty - it was a male and was getting a bit beefy with my bushfish ctenopomas so my best friend now has him ruling the roost in one of his tanks. Shame, but I'm more attached to my ctenopomas so the severum had to go. It's been replaced by an african knife fish which is getting along nicely fine :)

At long long last I havr now got my fish. Had a right go at the seller he had the oscar I brought from him as an albino, it was a lutino red it is a grand fish now about 7" and a red velvet. Both settled in well and living in peace and harnony with my 3 red heades sevs. Other than my 15" common plec that is all that is in there other than 2 tiny Lyretail chiclids, but boy don't you believe that oscars will attack and eat smaller fish. These 2 lyretails have been in the tank for about a year with the plec. When the oscars went in they where chased all around the tank by these little guys.
Now even with the oscars at 7" they will stand infront of them with their gills open untill the poor oscars back off out of their way. It is a case of the tiny imates rule the roost. It is so comical to watch them.
