Looking fo pick up a new doradid but i have yet to find these locally or online that is afforable. The few ebayers with some of these are asking outragous prices.
I'm looking for a 6-8" cat but i'm ok with growing a smaller one if prices are too high.
I'd like help with chosing one as i cannot afford all three. i'm looking at activity, ease of feeding and price. Any opinoins?

Ive not kept all 3 but have a friend with irwinni which ive seen on a few occasions and am keeping a granulos, i very rarely see my granulos unless i spoke him out from behind his wood or hiding place but is a gorgeus fish and gets anything i put in i think as hes always fat and i dont see him feed lol.

My friends irwini never come out either lol. And ive never kept lithodoras but have seen them in the shops before and they did seem to be rather chunky and happy fish. They are all nice fish but if you want an active one, go with the lithodoras but the cheapest i imagine would be the irwinni.

The irwini is about the laziest fish I've ever owned. Mostly sits under a log until feeding. Cool fish to look at(scares my wife) but mainly a lump.

I keep all three and they are all brilliant fish - you'll find that all hide more when they are smaller and really start to show themselves as they get larger.

Of the 3 i think that lithodoras is the most impressive and certainly the most active - but it gets huge - and grows very quickly indeed. I picked up a P. rivassi the other day which is a good choice - looks very similar to p granulosus but has a lot more blue and pink colour.

as far as availability is concerned - uranoscopus (irwini) is fairly common so could be a good choice

I have been hunting for a Dorsalis for quite a few years now but only have seen very large ones offered.I did have a Megaladoras but like others have said mine showed very little action.

I miss my dorsalis.. damn..

Since you're on a budget I would just go p. niger or m. irwini. I don't honestly think my dorsalis was that much more active then other armored cats anyways.

Cichla what did you do with your Litho,I think you purchased the last one I saw that was up for sale. These are some awesome looking bfish but they are just not very active.

i already have a niger. I also have a spotted raphael and 5 stripped raphaels. I just wanted one or two more larger doradids to go with my group. I really like the dorsalis and the irwini would hae to be 2nd. segrestfarms has all three but i cant find anyone locally to order them for me. i dont have the funds to buy the fish and pay shipping so i guess ill have to wait on one of the 2 distributors that are commonly used in my area to get one.

The one Pat aka ZOOYORK207 has is actually my old one. I gave him that and my alligator gar. At the time I thought he was chewing on someone in my tank. But now I have more tank space and I miss it. Oh well. lol

They are really awesome cats. But I like all the armored cats.
