I just bought online from a member. I know better not to big mistake with fish again. But should I quarantine new plants? if so, what solution to mix or meds? or just rinse & plant?

thks all

I dont myself . I just rinse all parts of the plant in luke warm water for a minute or so to get off all dirt , dust and tiny Snails , ect from them . :)

Hope that helps you .

Howdy,

I tend not to quarantine plants, but then, I've gotten all sorts of undesired biodiversity from this neglect, including snails and of course hydra

so, I wish not to intro them so quickly into my discus tank.

others have suggested a bleach dip? 1:20 parts anybody else hear of this or have done this?

includes their roots? & how long? 1hr 2hrs minutes??

I have chlorox & supermkt brand bleach to use.

I still have them in bags with tank water.

I also plan to put them in these nice no stem cosmo glasses with gravel so I can keep the discus tank bare bottom.

so far so good?

im not a fan of the bleach dip. i don't know what other chemicals are in the bleach and could be advertently passed into the tank. I have heard of using saltwater to be used as a dip. It kills freshwater problems and vise versa with saltwater fish and plants.
Before you do any dip make sure you do your research.

For me I normally just trow the plants in the tank after a quik rinse, but if your alittle uneasy wiith this which most Discus people are. I would then just give them a quik dunk in a solution of Chlorox and water 1:20 for about 5~10 second then rinse them off and let then sit in a container of tap water over night, one more rinse and put them in the tank. I wouldn't however recommend dipping the roots. Maybe if your really affraid you could use a drop or two of copper in the overnight tank.

i QT my plants. its just like anything adding to a close system. i had a friend who bought a crypt from a online vendor which ended up wiping out his tank of all the crypts and many other plants from some crazy fungus.

its really worth setting up a qt more so if you are worried about snails or other things that might be in the tank.

Well, I did the QT for a day, then did the clorox dip 20:1 for a few hrs. roots n all. I also then rinsed & let it sit for another hr then rinsed again & then soon after intro'd into the tank in bunches in my nice cosmo glasses n gravel. so far so good. they came past monday so been in tank a 4days.

will post if any adverse chgs. hope I can get some pics up, somehow misplaced my charger for the camera so dead in the water for now. my camera phone may have to suffice tho poor quality for taking tank shots.

thks all.

i have heard there is a potassium solution you can use instead of using the bleach/chemical blends... i read it on here so search around
