I use a bare bottom 10 gallon as well. It makes it really easy to dump out and scrub once treatment is done.
I keep a sponge filter running in my sump so that there won't be any cycling issues. I also keep a 29 gallon for new purchases. I just got 4 juvenile discus from Hans that are going to be in there awhile. Works pretty sweet.

thanks guys It's just bare bottom with 6 neon tetra's and it will stay running always with the tetra's in there to keep the nitrogen cycle going
