So I got 2 ocellaris p bass shipped to me a couple days ago. got them in qt and settled in. Bought 3 temensis bass a little bit smaller but won’t able to pick them up until later today. The bass are from two different places. Should I qt separate? I hate to dose two tanks but I haven’t had the best luck with bass so far so I’m trying my best to make it successful and get them threw qt. Any suggestions separate qt? Qt together?

Ideally it’d be better to separate and qt each fish. Not allow to share the same water or filters.

I agree.
And what do you mean by dose?
Different meds work on different pathogens.
Intestinal worms would require a different med, than certain external parasites.
Without knowing what the pathogen is, or even if there is a pathogen, what med would you be dosing with?

Alright so I got another dumb question. The tems I was gonna get were way small so I ended up passing on them.. but If I buy another couple ocellaris from the same supplier should I still qt separate from the first batch? I’m assuming yes but just kinda checking: I’ve never been the best at quarantine but I do try!

Yes. Fish from similar/same batches can have different diseases. Come from and into contact with different water.

I’ll get another tank set up for them. Thinking if all is well after 2 weeks combine the 2 batches? Or is that to soon? Want to grow the group of 4 bass out together after qt. until my 600 gal is done in 8-14 weeks

You probably should separate, but if you trust the sources, I probably wouldn’t. I only buy from sources I trust and don’t QT anymore and don’t have any problems

When you say you haven't had the best of luck w/ p bass so far, what kind of problems have you had?

In my experience they're pretty fragile when they're really young (like 1 - 1.5") but once you get them past that they're pretty robust. I've only had mine for a couple years though so I've plenty to learn as well. If I had one thought to share based on my experience it would be to transition them to pellets early if you intend to at all. I waited WAY too long w/ 3 fingerlings and they had eaten a few thousand rosy reds before I started transitioning them. That was a far bigger mistake than I would have guessed and it made the swap to pellets difficult for multiple reasons. The first being that if you have one that decides pellets are pretty tasty right out of the gate and the others go on a hunger strike for two or three weeks you'll have one brutus of a fish amongst a few others that have the heroin waif look going on.
