Our queen of 70 years died peacefully earlier today with her family by her side. She was 96.

I am not a staunch royalist by any stretch, but she was a great woman and I admired her enormously. RIP.

RIP. I know that the British populace loved their queen and my heart goes out to them.

I have never understood the motivations or feelings of royalists, but when my wife heard this news she, although not a royalist, was near tears.

How many politicians in the U.S. or Canada would elicit this kind of reaction?

I was shocked to wake up to the sad news today.
A few days ago she was on the news with the new UK prime minister and my wife mentioned how frail she looked, i didnt think much of it but she was obviously nearing the end.
Even if you arent a royalist you have to admire over 70 years in the job.
Now King Charles 3rd has to live up to the example she set.

Yes, she was a tough old bird, carrying on with her duties right up to the end. Like you said, she looked very frail when she met our new prime minister, Liz Truss, the other day.

As mentioned earlier I'm no royalist. In fact quite the contrary if truth be told. There has been a lot of scandal over the years but the one remaining constant was the queen. I don't think much of the royal family as a whole, but she was a great woman.

Didn't quite belive my wife when I got home last night till I pulled up the news. Felt like she would be around for ever. I was a kid of 15 in 97 and I got to go to the UK for a couple weeks with some old freinds of the family. I was about when Princess Dianna died and I have not seen such a display of mourning for a public figure since.
