Queen Elizabeth 2nd.

All that pomp and ceremony wasn't for one old lady in a box; it was for the institution of royalty.

Again, I am not a royalist by any stretch of the imagination, but I have an appreciation for tradition. The degree of spectacle that the British are able to create in a circumstance like this boggles the mind, and the fact that it is rooted in centuries of history just blows my mind. As was stated numerous times by various reporters and journalists covering the event, nobody else can do this as well as the Brits.

More power to 'em.

There seems to be one particular Brit who "boggles" your mind on a regular basis, lol. Glad to be of service!

I just don't buy into the whole royal thing. The queen, who I respected enormously, was the last shining beacon of light. She propped up the whole lot. In house bickering and scandal over the years turned a lot of people off, and the quite recent prince Andrew fiasco was very damaging.

A lot of people are saying it's just an old fashioned, dated and totally unnecessary institution. Saying that though I doubt they'll be going anywhere anytime soon.

Did the same myself!

I lasted until midnight and then hit the sack

There was an extra bank holiday for us but I ignored it and chose to work.

I saw a few highlights in the news later that evening and that was enough for me. Totally depressing.

It should have been a celebration of her life. It would have been better if they'd have passed the party hats round and sang such classics as "knees up mother brown" and "my old man's a dustman."

I didnt think it was depressing as such and there were enough TV specials celebrating her life. It was more mind blowing for me to see the crazy effort made to give her a proper royal send off with all the ceremony and tradition that entails.
For me it was more witnessing a historic moment live, I dont think it will ever happen again to such a degreee. Even when King Charles dies i dont think it will be such a major event and I doubt the public will have as much affection for him as they did for the queen so it wont be such an emotional event for the average person.
We got an extra day off too, worked out well as we already have a day off for the football final so turns into a 4 day weekend, her majesties final gift to the colonies!

All the pomp and ceremony was cool and i did enjoy seeing it but when you strip it all away the reality is a 96 year old lady had sadly passed away and thats what set the whole weeks of ceremony into action.
For all the traditions and pageantry in the middle of it was a family saying farewell to their mother, grandmother etc. under the gaze of apparently 4 billion people watching it on TV which is insane when you think about it.
The british are great at this sort of thing, they have had centuries of practice.

You’re lucky! Down south you get so many public holidays! We don’t get a holiday for the day before the NRL final! At least the swans are from up here. Hope you’re not a Collingwood fan!!!

It has been a nice chilled out week down here!
I’m a North Melbourne supporter so doubt I will be seeing any finals action for a good few years.........
The game today was bit of a let down, not very interesting to watch. I’m not a Robbie Williams fan but he did a very good job with the entertainment I must admit.
What a funny week for Australian life to be so dominated by the English

Well we've had a wet week this week up here in Sydney, probably the craziest thing was the Parramatta Eels making it to the NRL Grand Final!

Poor performance from the swans my grandmother was in fumes!
Robbie Williams is ok, but we've got Jimmy Barnes for the NRL Final!

I watched the whole funeral because it is a major event in my country's history and it was an extraordinary spectacle. Living History.

I feel I have known Queen Elizabeth II all my life and she has always been somebody I have respected, among very few others when I really think about it. I found it emotionally tough to watch the funeral at first so I cracked open a bottle of my favourite wine and then I didn't cry anymore and could enjoy the ceremony.

I think it is probably inevitable that the royal family will carry on as before whilst people are still interested. I think King Charles is a decent man and will keep things ticking over.

It has been like losing my grandmother except this time the details of how she passed away and the funeral have not been kept from me. So grieving has been easier.
