I found one of these for sale and he is cute as, only one and a half inches long. Now i know they are predatory fish but i am not sure if i can resist buying him.
I currently have 5 fish, Moorish idol Regal tang and Yellow tang all of which make him look like a shrimp so i don't think he would be a problem to them. I do however have an almost full size Purple dottyback and a 1.5" Hex wrasse. Would he be ok with these???

I am going to do a reef again so is he ok in a reef tank?
Also i guess i can't keep common clowns with him but i'm assuming he will be ok with any fish the same size or bigger????

What size tank?

Great size tank for what you have! Niger Triggers are NOT reef safe as they like to chew on ANYTHING they think is edible. They can be aggressive towards other fish. Starting with a small one like you are is your best bet. Alot of rock work and other decor is recommended.

is it a niger or a queen?

Mine is not that agressive compared to the other fish i have but i have him in with a clown trigger tessalata moray and a lion. I would watch out with the moorish idols because it might nip their fins. It might be reef safe but definatly not with inverts mine ate all my snails and hermits.

well as common names go they may as well be the same thing i have no idea what they call a niger trigger in AUS, they may very well it a queen for all i know.

but the top fish is Odonus niger, and would be aptly named the niger trigger..

as for reef safe-nes, i don't think they nip at corals toomuch but will destroy any inverts in the tank..

if the other(smaller) fish are introduced first the trigger shouldn't be too big a problem, but small in this context is like 5-6 inches..

Thanks for the advice guys but i will not be getting a trigger now, i rely on my inverts to help maintain my tank.

Thats a niger trigger not queen.. My buddy had one in a reef tank and it was safe.. most triggers are not reef safe, some dont bother the corals, it all depends..
